Hey Folks,
Hubble has ceased transmitting. The problem is serious. The Space Shuttle was going up to fix it in a few months but there is more than one component not working. I had a feed from Hubble on this blog but it is now inactive. Sad, sad sad.

Are Rocket Scientists Rich? September 7, 2008

I find this conception really hilarious. Yes, we are driven around in our Rolls Royce’s by our chauffeurs. We live in McMansions, have upstairs and downstairs maids and a 5 star chef. We often entertain the President and First Lady. Our closets are bigger than Oprah’s. We have so many employees that we have to have our own office building with a full staff of CPAs so we won’t have to pay taxes. We have a full-time mechanic to maintain the cars. Oh, I almost forgot the family jet. We have 2 full-time gardners to maintain our magnificent rose garden and the other flower garden. Helping the environment we use solar power and drive hybrid cars. We fire rockets every evening weather permitting just to keep our hands in. We are sorry if it lands on a neighbor’s head.
Now the truth: Help! We are broke.

SEND YOUR NAME TO THE MOON July 26, 2008

You read this correctly. There is a NASA website where you can sign your name and add it to the million people or so whose names will be going to the moon. Just search on any NASA site for “send your name to the moon”. It is FREE. I think this is really cool. You can then download a beautiful certificate, print it and frame it. My husband and I did.
This is really nice. All you grouches out there please ignore this. I figure that I worked on Apollo so I earned the right to have my name up there because I will never go.
I was going to upload the certificate but it is in PDF format. GGrrrr!
Blast it!

There were 3 stages on the Saturn V rocket. I worked as an Aerospace Engineer on the 1st stage at the Michoud Plant in New Orleans from 1965-1967. This picture is of a test firing (static test) of the 1st stage. Our stage was the biggest in the world and generated 7 and a half MILLION pounds of thrust. It boosted the Saturn V 38 miles high in 2 and 1/2 minutes.
